Race Planning, Done Together

"Can I do this?"

If that question has been living in your head since you signed up for your next race, this is for you. A 4-session 1:1 process to plan your race, including everything you worry about, so you walk in with proof — not hope.

"I don't know if I can finish."

That's the worry you don't say out loud. Not to your crew or pacers, not to your training partners, maybe not even to yourself in those words. But it's there — at mile 0 and at mile 60 and at 2am when you can't sleep before the race.

So you do what most ultrarunners do. You worry about the cutoffs. You hope you'll have a good day. You try to convince yourself you're ready. You look at aid stations and cutoffs, guess at how fast you can run, and when the gun goes off, you're winging it — hoping luck and good legs carry you to the finish.

Here's where that gets you: miserable halfway through. Giving up when you don't have to. Making bad calls about pace and aid stations because you never decided what you'd do before you were standing there with the clock ticking, trying to figure it out. You race scared because you went in not knowing — and you let that panic make your decisions for you.

Let's see if you can.

Not worry. Not doubt. Not a guess. A plan.

This isn't about hoping for the best or trusting your training to carry you through. It's about building the actual how-to story of your race before you ever toe the line — your pace, your strategy, all the "what-ifs," your mindset, all answered together, so nothing about race day is a surprise.

Proof it's possible — not a feeling, an answer. You'll see exactly how much time you have to work with, and exactly how much room you have to adjust when things don't go to plan. You won't throw your race away in the first 20 miles because you panicked about a cutoff you didn't understand. You'll walk in calm, because you already know what you're doing. And when something goes wrong — it always does — you know how to adapt instead of guessing.

No more wondering if you could've done better. You'll know you did.

What makes this different

This isn't a pace calculator. It isn't a spreadsheet you fill out alone and hope makes sense on race day. We build it together — I guide you through a process — that puts your goal, your pace, your strategy, your worst-case plan, and your mindset into one race story. I help you make the hard decisions now, while you're calm and thinking clearly, instead of late in the race when you're not.

Think of it like walking into a test with the answer key already in hand. You're not hoping you remember the material — you already know how this goes.

Four sessions. One race plan.

SESSION 01 — MILE 0

Goal and Pace

We build your foundational pace plan based on your goal, before factoring in aid stations or sleep.

SESSION 02 — THE COURSE

Course Mapping

We map your course together, identify your pinch points, and build the mindset plan for getting through them.

SESSION 03 — THE FULL PICTURE

Bringing It Together

We finalize the plan, answer your remaining questions, and walk through race day step by step so you can see it before you live it.

SESSION 04 — THE FINISH LINE

Post-Race Evaluation

After your race, we break down what happened so you walk away with everything you need to race even smarter next time.

Who this is for

New

Stepping up to a new distance and want to walk in with a real plan instead of guessing your way through it.

Experienced

Comfortable with ultras, ready to push further — and want your strategy as sharp as your training.

Veteran

Plenty of races behind you, and ready to stop leaving the outcome to hope and luck.

This isn't theory. It's built from 25+ years in ultrarunning 150+ hundred-mile finishes — plus Moab 240 (twice), Bigfoot 200, and a full list of other distances and formats. The same race-planning approach that's gotten me through some of the hardest courses in the sport is the one I'll walk you through.

Client Story

"Quote from a client about going into their race with a plan instead of fear, and what changed because of it."

You're not buying a spreadsheet. You're buying the answer to "can I do this" — and the plan to prove it.

Questions

My race is only a few weeks away. Is it too late?

This process works best if we start 3–8 weeks out, but if your race is closer, we can compress sessions and focus on what matters most first. Book a consult call and we'll figure out what's realistic for your timeline.

What if I don't know my goal time yet?

That's normal, and it's actually part of session 1. We'll work backward from the course, cutoffs, and what you'd like to run to figure out what feels realistic for you, not just what you're hoping for.

Does this cover nutrition and gear too?

This process is focused on pace, strategy, course, and mindset — the decisions that have the biggest impact on whether you finish and how you feel doing it. If nutrition or gear questions come up along the way, we'll talk through them, but they're not the core of the plan.

What if my plan changes after we build it — injury, weather, a DNS, anything?

That's exactly why session 2 includes what-ifs and worst-case scenario planning. You won't just have one fixed plan — you'll know how to adjust if things shift before or during the race.

I've done a race plan before and it didn't really help. Why would this be different?

Most race plans are pace math. This is goal, pace, course, mindset, and strategy combined together, with someone walking you through all the decisions in advance — not an impersonal spreadsheet you're expected to meet on race day.

What happens after the race?

Session 4 is a full post-race evaluation. We break down what happened, everything you can learn from it, and how to use that to improve your next race.

You don't have to wonder anymore.

You don't have to go into your race hoping, guessing, or relying on luck to get you to the finish. You know — not because someone promised you it'll be fine, but because you built the plan yourself and watched it become possible. No more what-ifs. No more winging races that matter to you. Just a plan, a clear head, and proof you can do this.
